| The exhibition Redrum is
constructed like a drama; a dream. The narrative moves freely around an
atmosphere which follows a red thread. We wanted to create a feeling of
a passionate drama that had just taken place, with its powerful tension
between life-affirming and destructive energies. A feverish dream that
generates images of a continuum, a before and an after. We have chosen to place the lovers at the center; where the man incessantly sings his love-declaration to the waiting woman. They are frozen in a position where the wait is your most reliable companion. The rooms are now emptied of people and what is left is the remains of a various mental positions. In the inner room with the bright light there are two white paitings with a long text. This is taken from a series of books that we wrote together a few years ago. These books, which resembled diary entries, were written in such a way that one of us freely commented on what the other had written. It resulted in a series of seven books where bliss was the last one. This book was now brought into the painting where the text could move without a break, without beginning, without end; like in a dream. You could enter into the text at any point and weave your own thread. The paintings and the series of etchings in the large hall circle around the description of an imaginary room. The gaze that searches to read the empty space is concealed in different ways. And hence forced ro start over perpetually. The title Redrum is obvioulsy a wordgame but also alludes to the film The Shining by Stanley Kubrick. In this movie, the son of the family has psychic abilities to find out about past events at the hotel that the family takes care of, through his secret friend. The hotel is void of people but carries memories of various mental conditions and events within its walls. Through the title, we wanted to allude to a similar chain of events, triggered by a powerful passionate drama. The exhibition contained sound, objects, light-objects, paintings and graphics. |
