The International Sculpture
Symposium “An Giang Hallmark” II – 2005 will be held
in Chau Doc township, An Giang province by An Giang Provincial People’s
Committee.
This is among a series of activities of 2005 happening in Chau Doc township,
aiming at creating diverse sculptural works and providing the landscape
with valuable artworks so that Chau Doc township can build a Sculpture
Garden Park in the Sam Mountain tourist site.
The Sculpture Garden Park will be a valuable art place of Chau Doc township,
a destination for tourists to An Giang province, which is a border province
with a lot of historical and cultural vestiges and has tourism potentialities.
In 2005, An Giang province will host the International Sculpture Symposium “An
Giang Hallmark” II with a desire to expand cultural exchange activities
and have the opportunities to invite sculptors from many different contries
to Vietnam. This is also the chance for An Giang to make every effort to
integrate and exchange cultural aspects into the global culture.
An Giang province covers an area of 3,424 km2 with a population of 2,083,571
people.
An Giang is situated in the southwestern Vietnam, bordering Cambodia, upstream
of the Mekong Delta river with fertile rice paddies in the Tu Giac Long
Xuyen region. It has several ethnic groups with different religions. It
also occupies a That Son Range with green forests, beautiful waterfalls
and cool lakes, etc. The province has a great deal of mausoleums, pagodas,
temples bearing the hallmark of pioneers of the south Vienam such as Nguyen
Huu Canh temple, Tay An pagoda, Thoai Ngoc Hau mausoleum, Cave Pagoda,
Lady Xu Temple (Sam Mountain), and so on in Chau Doc township, which are
unique nationally-recognized cultural vestiges.
The closeness of ethnic groups’ (Chineese, Cham and Khmer) and Kinh
people’s cultural aspects which are characterised by the river life,
creates unique cultural diversity. Many folk festivals are preserved as
a precious property of the people of An Giang province, of which Lady Xu’s
Birthday Festival – Sam Mountain is held in Chau Doc township with
over 2 million visitors every year. With the cultural aspects in daily
life of the people of Chau Doc township, there are floating fish cage villages,
a floating market and a famous tourist attraction. An Giang tourism has
a lot of opportunities for development thanks to many natural, cultural
and human potentialities.
The International Sculpture Symposium “An Giang Hallmark” I
- 2003 held in Chau Doc township left 36 sculptural works of 34 sculptors
from 14 countries throughout the world. The cultural event created an important
hallmark of the sculptors’ good hearts for Chau Doc township, An
Giang province. The works are a priceless possession of Chau Doc people,
which beautifies the natural landscape of Sam Mountain tourist site.
Chau Doc township hopes to have a Sculpture Garden Park of 100 sculptural
works to create a cutural product site for tourists from home and abroad.

- 2005 will be held at Sam Mountain, a well-known tourist site of An Giang
province. The site is a beautiful and open landscape with rice paddies
surrounding Sam Mountain. Keeping a lot of nationally-recognized cultural
and historical vestiges, Sam Mountain area is an ideal place for sculptors.
It is also the location for the International Sculpture Symposium “An
Giang Hallmark” I – 2003 to take place successfully.

- 2005 will last from 31 October, 2005 to 10 December, 2005.
